Voucher Photos

Photographs were taken in the lab of the fresh voucher specimens before they went on the dehydrator. About 900 photos, along with the associated collection information, are currently available:

"Vouchered records" means that we preserve representative specimens so that they can be studied in various ways later. Essentially, we collect, photograph, and dry them. These specimens are then deposited in the University of California herbarium along with data about their locations, habitat, and date of collection. These specimens are valuable because they provide verifiable evidence of the presence of the species that they represent. They also provide material for further scientific study. Our mantra is "without a specimen, it's a rumor".
