Psilocybin Mushrooms: The Magic, Science,
and Research
In his latest book, fungal pharmacologist Robert Rogers provides readers with a general overview of magic mushrooms and their use. Rather than describe occasions when those mushrooms scrambled up his serotonin, he offers a bounty of quotes and citations. This can often be a bit annoying, as when he says about Carlos Castaneda: “Widmer (1995) wrote an amusing satirical tale about Castaneda and his experiences with mushrooms.” What tale? I immediately wanted to know, but I would be obliged to look it up. Often, too, the book’s citations aren’t evaluated for their accuracy, scientific or otherwise, especially when dealing with Terrence McKenna and his allies. And why doesn’t the caption below the photo representing mycelia refer to the primordia that dominate the photo?
My complaints aside, if you want a cursory introduction to psilocybin mushrooms, this is the book for you.
