The North American Species of Pholiota

Appendix

In the course of studying Gymnopilus Hesler has studied the types of Flammula olivacea Pat., F. aureoviridis Pat. and F. vinicolor Pat. His type studies are given below; new combinations are withheld pending study of fresh material.

Flammula aureoviridis Pat.

Coll. by Duss, No. 816, on decayed wood, Camp Jacob, Guadeloupe, Farlow Herb.

Spores 6-8.5 x (3.5) 4-4.5 µ, ellipsoid to subovoid, inequilateral in profile, smooth, truncate (germ pore large), brownish in KOH, yellowish brown in Melzer's reagent. Basidia unsuitable for study. Pleurocystidia and cheilocystidia none found. Gill trama subparallel, hyphae 3-5 µ broad; subhymenium not distinctive. Pileus trama radial. Cuticle of brown, repent hyphae; no pileocystidia. Caulocystidia none. Clamp connections present.

This is a Pholiota (Kuehneromyces).

Flammula olivacea Pat.

Coll. by Duss, on dead wood, near Basse-Terre, Martinique, No. 53, Patouillard, Farlow Herb.

Spores 5.5-7.5 x 3.5-4.5 µ, ellipsoid to subovoid, truncate from a broad germ pore, smooth, brown in 2% KOH, and in Melzer's reagent. Basidia (not in condition for study). Pleurocystidia and cheilocystidia none found. Cuticle repent, bearing clusters of brownish more or less erect hyphae. Clamp connections present. Caulocystidia none.

This is a Pholiota (Kuehneromyces-type).

Flammula vinicolor Pat.

Coll. Duss, Saint Pierre, Martinque, on dead wood, July 1889 (type), Farlow Herb.

Spores (5.5) 6.5-8 x (3.5) 4-4.5 µ, ellipsoid to subovoid, truncate from a broad germ pore, smooth, brown in KOH, yellowish brown in Melzer's reagent. Basidia unsuitable for study. Pleurocystidia and cheilocystidia not found. Gill trama undulating subparallel, hyphae 3-5 µ broad; subhymenium not distinctive. Pileus trama radial. Cuticles repent, with scattered, low mounds of colorless, clavate to cylindric pileocystidia, 23-32 x 3-6 µ. Clamp connections none found. Caulocystidia none.

This is a Pholiota (Kuehneromyces).
