Great Smoky Mountain Fungi
In the summer of 2009, a group of amateur and professional mycologists spent two weeks at the University of Tennessee field station near Gatlinburg. The purpose of the expedition was to collect and identify fungi from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The collecting took place between 28 July and 6 August. Participants were Michael Wood, Brandon Matheny, Steve Trudell, Else Vellinga, Martin Ryberg, Michael Pilkington, Aaron Wolfenbarger, John Lennie, and Joshua Birkebak. During the two weeks we made 647 collections of mushroom-forming fungi that correspond to 410 morphological species.
