Solitary to scattered in leaf litter, primarily of deciduous trees in riparian habitats; widespread but rare; fruiting spring and fall.
Unknown.
Stropharia kauffmanii can be distinguished by its dry and scaly brownish cap, lilac-greyish attached gills, and disagreeable odor.
