Solitary to scattered to gregarious in duff of conifer forests, especially redwood. Common in northwestern coastal forests. Rare south.
Unknown.
Gliophorus laetus is distinctive by is variably colored sporocarps and decurrent gills. Gliophorus psittacinus can have similarly colored caps, but not decurrent gills.
